Pinkalicious is "Pink-A-Tastic" Fun

Main Content

The perky heroine Pinkalicious pops onto the McLeod Summer Playhouse scene in her very own show, “Pinkalicious the Musical,” playing through July 15 in the C.H. Moe Theater. This mini-musical romp through “Pink-a-tastic Land,” based on the famed children’s book, follows Pinkalicious as she develops a case of “Pinkatitus” (which turns you pink) from eating too many of her favorite-colored cupcakes.

“The message is healthy eating and moderation,” says Vincent Rhomberg, director of marketing for the playhouse. “The ‘medicine’ is served with music and a pink cupcake instead of a spoonful of sugar. The show has a book by Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann, who created the children’s story, with music by John Gregor. The trio shares credit for the lyrics.

The cast is headed by the talented Shelby Terrell who plays Pinkalicious. Bryce Beliveau portrays her brother, Peter. Mr. & Mrs. Pinkerton are played by Jonathan Steffins and Danae DeShazer with Alexis Nwokoji in double roles as best friend Alison and pediatrician Dr. Wink. Seven students from the SIU B.F.A. in Musical Theater Program join in the fun as birds, bees, butterflies and cupcakes. They are Jake Ellsworth, Andrew Lampley, Josh Miller, Madison Pruitt, Emily Turner, Michael Radford, and Michael Sigillito.

The parade is led by director/choreographer Wes Drummond, with musical direction by Kevin A. Smith. The sets are designed by Ron Naversen, with costumes by Andie Nicks, Lighting by Jenna Harris and sound by Brandyn McGhee. Jenna Mee Dosch serves as associate musical director/accompanist.

“Pinkalicious” is the theater for young audience production for the MSP 2017 season. The inclusion of a TYA show began four season ago as an outreach effort by MSP to create opportunity for younger audiences.
